At some point in the near future we, the American People, will have to move beyond the shrill and unproductive nature of what we call ’politics’ towards a system that rewards those that will actually be counted upon to DO SOMETHING POSITIVE about the environment. Politics of tomorrow will not be about whether or not a candidate said something bad about the troops or whether or not he is gay or even what his policy is on ’small issues’ like abortion or social security. The world will not have time for these tit-tat battles. The world, my friends, will be seen to be increasingly sliding down the global warming path as well as other ways our assault on the environment is leading to a very dismal world.

Today we read that there’s less than 50 years left of ’wild fish’ left. This has to be addressed and solved or there won’t be any fish in the sea soon. The repercussions of this alone will be staggering. Sure, a lobster will cost $500.00, not $50.00 in a few years. But, more importantly, the loss of sea life is the loss of a very bottom rung of the pyramid of life. It will start a chain reaction of species extinction the world has never seen.
When it becomes increasingly apparent that the world is suffering from our depredations against it, we will look for, and demand, politicians that will do something ’to fix it’. Hopefully we won’t be too late. Looking back, we will see that these so-called politicians of today were locked in narrow battles that wasted valuable time against the larger problem, ourselves vs the environment. The clock is ticking while we play word games and kill each other in the desert over the control of oil which is simply fuel for the whirlwind of global warming to come. An alien observing our actions would have to declare us insane as a species. They wouldn’t be far off.
