In case you were wondering...   I'm tinkering around with Window's Live Writer... a great free offline blog writer that allows you to WYSWYG your blog.  Maybe your online blog's editor is just staid, painful to deal with or otherwise clunky.  This is a great replacement for it. 



Basically you will write up blog in Live Writer, connect to your blog,  and it will Post it for you (with various options such as Category assignment/Comment control/and a few other things).  Need to make a quick correction?  Pull it back into Live Writer, make the change and repost... done.



Lot's of Add-ons (which are what the above Inserts are about - now playing, from Feed (snippet option), website image, flickr picture, quote of the day, Event (choose from zip code), Windows Live Map, Tags (various tag services offered, Technorati shown, special mention to del.ico.us and flickr as well)



Since Add-ons are open source there's a growing community that are providing these extensions/add-ons to the Windows Live Writer engine.  



 As you can see I've become quite the fan of it.  It's easy to use, intuitive and clean interface. I had some initial difficulties hooking up with my blogging software (Nucleus) because it doesn't use a 'common API' (ie connection) However, a quick jump into Nucleus Forum provided the necessary 'hook up' info (MetaWeblog API).  But then I hit another snag that isn't Live Writer's fault, but I think is something in Nucleus (don't get me wrong - Nucleus is a GREAT Open Source Blogging Package - and it is Free as well!).  Under this MetaWeblog API I wasn't able to post with Comments Allowed (It would always default to No Comments) additionally, it wouldn't give Live Writer the ability to assign categories on the post.  Another trip to the API and I came across someone that had hooked up Live Writer via a WordPress API.  That's a bit odd, but I tried it and, yup, now I got both Comments On and Category Assignment.  Woot!



Oh, did you notice the 'photopaper' bordering on Young Frank there?  That's another nicety of Live Writer (as well as Drop Shadow).



Again, if you're looking for a straight up offline blog writer with a boat load of features and you like it free... you would be well advised to check out Live Writer.  Let me know what you think of it!
